Jacksonville Beach City Manager George Forbes Announces His Retirement

Has served in the post for 23 years.
Jacksonville Beach City Manager George Forbes announced his plans to retire from the position effective August 1st.
Forbes made the announcement at Monday’s meeting of the Jacksonville Beach City Council. He became City Manager in Jacksonville Beach in 1995. He is the longest-serving city manager in the history of the city. “When I took the job here, I said ‘of all the jobs in the United States, this is the one that interests me the most’,” Forbes said in announcing his retirement. “I think after 23 years I’ve proved that’s true. I’ve had a career that’s better than my wildest dreams. I’ve been to the greatest place, I’ve met the greatest people. It’s just time. That’s all. It’s just time.”
The city will have four months to find Forbes’ replacement. An interim city manager will likely be appointed while the search is conducted.
