Jacksonville Beach Resident Files for Open School Board Seat
Shannon Beckham is a former teacher.
Jacksonville Beach resident Shannon Beckham has announced her candidacy for Seat 2 on the Duval County School Board. The seat became vacant when School Board Member Scott Shine announced he would not seek reelection.
On her Facebook campaign page, Beckham describes herself as a Florida native with a masters degree in education from the University of Florida. She is a former teacher, and has two children in public schools.
Beckham list her priorities as a School Board Member as school safety, supporting teachers, and creating well-rounded students.
There are three other filed candidates for the office: Elizabeth Andersen, Sam Hall and Nick Howland. The race is non-partisan.
The primary election will be held August 26th, with a general election held November 6th.
Meanwhile, School Board Members Scott Shine will be the featured speaker at Beaches Watch on Wednesday, June 6th. Shine will discuss issues of interest to the community concerning public schools, including the selection of a new Superintendent of Schools. Beaches Watch meets the first Wednesday of each month at the Beaches Branch of the Jacksonville Public Library. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m.
